Bringing the Vision to Life: System Governance, Alignment, and Performance

By on November 11, 2015

At the Eighth Annual Vision Coalition Conference on Education, six dedicated action groups (corresponding to the Six Core Areas found in Student Success 2025) worked together to develop a list of priorities for the next six to 18 months.

The System Governance, Alignment, and Performance action group was led by Paul Herdman, president and CEO of the Rodel Foundation of Delaware; Jorge Melendez, vice president of the Delaware State Board of Education; Tony Allen, chair of the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission; Teri Quinn Gray, president of the Delaware State Board of Education; and Robert E. Hull, director of the Center for College, Career, and Civic Readiness, National Association of State Boards of Education.

The action group discussed the recommendations of Student Success 2025, identified progress underway, developed and discussed action steps for successful implementation, and identified work that can be done in the next six to 18 months to make the recommendations a reality.

Here are the six to 18-month Recommended Action Steps for the System Governance, Alignment, and Performance action group:

  • Support enabling policies to encourage collaboration, rather than forcing collaboration
  • Convene community based organizations serving children to align current efforts
  • Cultural competency training
  • Empower schools to build specific goals for student success unique to their student population
