Planning for 2035

The Vision Coalition Leadership Team is leading the development of the next 10-year plan for public education—to establish a vision and identify promising initiatives for the state to pursue to achieve the excellent and equitable education all Delaware students deserve.

To do that, the Vision Coalition conducted a public survey in 2023 to take the pulse of the education system of today and tomorrow, held town halls across the state where local communities and advocates shared their ideas and perspectives to help shape the future of Delaware Public schools, hosted a webinar on the future of education with an international expert, and convened an inclusive steering committee made up of leaders from across the state to provide advice and direction on key education areas.

The Leadership Team has helped develop two previous plans: Vision 2015 and Student Success 2025.  The 10-year time horizon for the next plan enables long-term visioning and commitments to initiatives that last more than one political cycle or administration. The Leadership Team takes stock every year of the progress to date and opportunities for improvement. Check out the 2023 Annual Progress Report.

VC 2023 Survey Results

The Vision Coalition 2035 Public Survey took Delawareans’ pulse on the public education system of today and tomorrow.

Hundreds of Delawareans responded to help Delaware set the vision for the future of education.

Students, parents, educators, and community members were asked: What should a Delawarean know and be able to do in 2035? Where has Delaware made the most progress? What should be the top of mind for the next 10 years? See the full press release here.

Town Halls
This winter in 2024, the Vision Coalition held three in-person town halls across Delaware’s three counties: New Castle, Kent, and Sussex, and two virtual events where local community members and advocates shared their ideas and perspectives to help shape the future of Delaware public schools. We discussed what Delaware should prioritize in the next 10 years, and what their recommendations were in the following education areas:

  • Early childhood education
  • K-12 issues and student supports
  • Educator support
  • Postsecondary success
  • Fair funding and equity
